Top Tips For Keeping Skin Fresh And Glowing This Winter
With the continually changing weather and central heating playing havoc with your body, keeping your skin fresh and glowing throughout the winter can be a challenge. Winter is a tough time for everyone’s skin and can take a toll on our skin, making it look dull and feel dry.
So, if you struggle to maintain your skin’s health during the colder months, don’t despair. Continue reading to discover some of the best advice for keeping your skin’s beautiful glow all year round. Here are top tips for keeping skin fresh and glowing this winter.
1. Avoid face wipes
Pretty much everyone knows by now that face wipes damage your skin and the environment-this is a new discovery for me and I’ve stopped using them so much, even though it seems like an easier option. Using them means tugging at your face, which can lead to premature wrinkles and excessive irritation. In winter, it is even more vital that you ditch the face wipes for something gentler like a balm, cream or oil cleanser because many face wipes are soaked in harsh astringents like alcohol which will further dry your face out.
2. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
Hate that tight feeling you get when you have just washed your face? Well, first you should make sure you are using a hydrating and gentle cleanser, but secondly, you need to get yourself some moisturizer. There’s no need to spend a fortune though, as there are plenty of fantastic moisturizers available at the drugstore. Skin-loving ingredients to look out for include ceramides, cholesterol and hyaluronic.
3. Practice mindfulness
Taking a more mindful and ethical approach to your lifestyle can decrease your stress levels, which helps to keep your skin clear and healthy. Such a great reminder! Stress produces cortisol in the body and contributes to an increase in acne, so try some yoga and try to make time for more self-care. In Australia, according to Adore Beauty, at least 10 million animals suffer and die as a result of cosmetic testing every year, so using skincare and makeup products which are cruelty-free can also help you feel better about yourself and make you feel like you are doing your bit for the planet.

4. Don’t forget exercise
Exercise is good for you inside and out! Even though the weather outside might be frightful, don’t let that put you off getting your recommended daily exercise requirements. You don’t even need to leave your house to get some exercise, as you can also do a bit of yoga or pilates while watching TV! For me personally, if I can’t make it out to the gym, I love to take an evening walk with my husband and pup.
5. Get a humidifier
Central heating makes your skin dry, so a humidifier will put some moisture into the air and keep your skin from turning into the Sahara Desert! Some humidifiers will set you back a lot of money, so if you don’t need to humidify your whole house then choosing something smaller and less costly will be perfect for keeping by your bed or on your work desk to keep your skin from getting flaky.
6. Eat well
It can be very easy to forget to eat healthily during wintertime. While there is nothing wrong with enjoying the delish holiday pies and sweet treats (currently craving a slice of pumpkin pie), try to remember to eat some fruits and veggies too! Minerals and vitamins such as Vitamin C and Biotin are essential for healthy, glowing skin so don’t skimp on them.
