By now, I’m sure you know that my first trimester hasn’t been easy. It’s been kind of crazy to watch my body change in all aspects. Bringing LIFE into this world is such a miracle and I’m so beyond thankful and blessed to be on this pregnancy journey. With that being said, I want to always be open and honest as much as I can about this journey. So today I’m sharing “Pregnancy: Surviving The First Trimester”.
I’ve been super open about how sick I was the first trimester. Mainly with nausea and fatigue to the point of not being able to get out of bed for most of the day. I would do my best to get up and still make my dinners, go on mini walks, and do what I could to be active and healthy, but sometimes I just wasn’t sure if I was going to make it through. Guess what, I did! I made it through the first trimester. Here’s my first trimester survival (or barely survival) guide.
Sweat Pants: Just go ahead and get yourself a couple pair of comfy sweat pants that you can wear on the regular. I bought several different types of sweat pants and I wore them and still wear them just about everyday. I wore leggings until it hurt my belly area around 10 weeks. Sweat pants are just way better and comfier in my opinion. I bought a couple of interchangeable plain tops to go with them so when I went out I kind of already knew what to wear. I could actually go from bed/couch and out to do whatever it was I needed to do (if I had to). I bought this pair as like my “going out” pair, cause they looked a little less like sweat pants, but still just as comfy. Moving into my second trimester as my belly began to grow a bit, I got these BLANQI leggings, they are super comfy, provide support, and feel like butter,
Body Oil/Lotion: I started using a body oil and lotion as soon as I found out I was pregnant. I don’t know if it will help in the long run, although I do hope so. I’m hoping this will prevent both the itchy dry skin and stretch marks later on. I apply to my belly, hips, butt, thighs, and boobs MAINLY, but really just everywhere. I am using Bio Oil and I also got the Palmer’s lotion. Sometime’s I couldn’t handle the smell of the oil.
Crackers: The only thing I knew I could eat for a while, was just crackers. Cheese and crackers worked well for lunch or snacks, but when everything else failed, I could count on plain crackers. Keep a box on you. This really goes for like anything you can stomach in the first trimester, it’s normally bland foods. I kept plainish dry cereal next to my bed, and had plain waffles for breakfast. I always kept these items in stock.
Comfy Bra: Your growing and sore breast will thank you. Mine were so tender and growing so fast that my normal padded bras would hurt and make me feel uncomfortable. I loved unpadded bralettes. These little ribbed tops are my BFF. I wore them around the house and put cardigans over top if I had to leave my house. More recently, I got this Hatch bra and it is super comfortable!
Sea Bands: I caved when my nausea was too much to handle. I got a pair of Sea Bands on Amazon and wore them most of the time, until I started to feel a little better. I can’t vouch for it they ACTUALLY worked, but if anything, it tricked my brain into thinking I was ok for a bit. They were tight on my wrists (and I have tiny wrists), left marks, and kind of made it itchy, but at that point I would take anything over what I was feeling almost 24/7.
Large Water Container: You need LOTS of water during pregnancy. I used my large pink yet cup and took it with me EVERYWHERE. I just got into the habit of making it a priority to bring it with me wherever I was. It kept my water cold which helped kind of refresh and soothe the nausea.
Lemon Ginger Tea: I truly believe this helped my “morning” sickness. It made it a little more bearable and it would sometimes subside for a bit. I got organic ginger tea bags from the grocery store. Made myself a warm tea with it and squeezed TONS of lemon into it. I would even make a glass and stick it into the fridge for later. It was a little rough to get down, but I really felt like it soothed my tummy. THIS is the tea bags that I got.
Lemons: Just stock up on lemons. I sniffed them, put them in my water, tea, shower and if I could find another way I would. It helped to sniff them when I was so sick that I could barely function. I just cut up slices and kept fresh lemons on hand as much as possible.
Rest: I should have moved this to the top, but REST is KEY!!!! Like throughout the entire pregnancy I’m sure. Honestly, I made it through most of my days because I stepped back in a lot of areas in my life to concentrate on my physical and mental health. My business kind of took the back seat, and I really just took some time to rest. I researched pregnancy, wrote some of the blogs you’ve seen, and really just rested. This is such an important and crucial time in your life, give yourself proper nourishment and rest.
Body Pillow: I was a tummy sleeper, so I had to train myself to sleep on my side and this really helped. I’m kind of picky about my pillows but I do enjoy my body pillow. I know you can just get the same effect with a couple of pillows, but it was still nice.
Preggie Pop Dops: I kept these little pops on me at all times during the early part of my pregnancy when I just couldn’t handle anything, and I needed SOMETHING to keep me pushing through the days. I think I popped a couple in here and there to help. I got kind of tired of them after a while, but mainly because I didn’t want sweet things. However, it was nice to have them on hand when I felt like I couldn’t find anything else to help.
