And no…I’m not pregnant. However, Jacob and I are expecting our baby puppy to be ready to come home on September 20, 2014. I’m sorry if you all thought that I was pregnant. I did receive several texts and calls wondering if that would be the big surprise! Jacob and I are not quite ready for kids. We are taking this time to enjoy each other. We are both going through different steps in our life that require lots of focus and attention.
Jacob and I have known for about two years now that we wanted a puppy once we were married. A puppy requires lots of attention. We figured it would be best to wait until we started our lives together so that we can give our puppy the needed training and attention that it needs. We started researching different dogs once we started talking about marriage. We read and studied up on several different dogs that we thought would fit best with our lifestyle. We came to the decision about a year ago that we were going to get a German Shorthaired Pointer. We began to watch videos, read books and study specifically this breed of dog and the differences between a male and female. We had actually already picked out the name before we picked out the breed( because it’s Jacob’s favorite band). We chose a German Shorthaired Pointer because they are active, used for protection and good with other dogs and people. They don’t have many health issues to worry about. When we met with an owner of this breed we were also informed that they don’t tend to bark a lot. Jacob was especially fond since they are great hunting dogs. Once we got married and got settled into our new life with each other we decided to look for a breeder. We started researching, but not very seriously. Then Jacob started pursuing a career in the Police force. This requires night shifts, 12 hours shifts and other requirements that would leave me home by myself. We knew we had to start thinking more seriously so that we could have her trained before he went away for boot camp. As of last month we found a breeder and our little Maylene was born July 20, 2014. We now wait 2 months before going to pick her up, but we receive updates, pictures, and video of her growth. She currently does not have all of the ticking and roan but will be seeing more changes in her coat over the next couple weeks.
We are so excited about our newest addition to the Roe household. We have built a fence so that she can run and play in our back yard. We are researching puppy training classes, and we are working on “baby proofing” the house before she gets here. Puppy pictures are to come but here is a group shot of all of the females in the liter:
